Orbital elements of barium stars formed through a wind accretion scenario

چکیده
Taking the total angular momentum conservation in place of the tangential momentum conservation, and considering the square and higher power terms of orbital eccentricity e, the changes of orbital elements of binaries are recalculated for wind accretion scenario. These new equations of orbital elements are used to calculate the properties of barium stars. Our results show that, during the evolution of a binary system, the system widens as it loses mass, and the orbital period increases, while orbital eccentricity remains nearly constant, which can quantitatively explain the observed (e,logP ) properties of normal G, K giants and those of barium stars. The results reflect the evolution from G, K giant binaries to barium binaries, namely, the orbits of barium stars have been modified by the mass-transfer process responsible for their chemical peculiarities, whereas most of the G, K giant binaries are probably pre-mass transfer binaries. Moreover, the results showed that the barium stars with longer orbital period P>1600 days may be formed by accreting part of the ejecta from the intrinsic AGB stars through wind accretion, while those with shorter orbital period may be formed through dynamically stable late case C mass transfer or common envelope ejection.

The heavy-element abundances of AGB stars and the angular momentum conservation model of wind accretion for barium stars
Adopting new s-process nucleosynthesis scenario and branch s-process path, we calculate the heavy-element abundances of solar metallicity 3M thermal pulse asymptotic giant branch (hereafter TP-AGB) stars, and then discuss the correlation between heavy-element abundances and C/O ratio. 13C(α, n)16O reaction is the major neutron source, which is released in radiative condition during the interpul...

We obtain abundances of α, iron peak and neutron capture (n-capture) process elements in four Ba stars HD26886, HD27271, HD50082 and HD98839 based on high resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra. We find that all of these Ba stars are disk stars. Their α and iron peak elements are similar to the solar abundances. The n-capture process elements are overabundant relative to the Sun. In particula...
متن کاملInsights into the formation of barium and Tc-poor S stars from an extended sample of orbital elements
The set of orbital elements available for chemically-peculiar red giant (PRG) stars has been considerably enlarged thanks to a decade-long CORAVEL radial-velocity monitoring of about 70 barium stars and 50 S stars. When account is made for the detection biases, the observed binary frequency among strong barium stars, mild barium stars and Tc-poor S stars (respectively 35/37, 34/40 and 24/28) is...

I propose a scenario to account for the fast polar outflow detected to be blown by η Carinae in 2000. The scenario accounts also for the lack of this flow in 1998 and 1999. The scenario is based on the binary nature of η Carinae. The collision of the winds blown by the two stars, in particular near periastron passages, slows down ∼ 5% of the wind blown by η Carinae, i.e., the massive primary st...
متن کاملWind Accretion by a Binary Stellar System and Disk Formation
I calculate the specific angular momentum of mass accreted by a binary system embedded in the dense wind of a mass losing asymptotic giant branch star. The accretion flow is of the Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton type. For most of the relevant parameters space the flow is basically an isothermal high Mach number accretion flow. I find that when the orbital plane of the accreting binary system and the orb...
